Fruit From Washington - Labels Display |

 Before
the use of mass produced cardboard boxes, fruit growers, packers and
shippers printed labels and attached them to the wooden fruit crates
or boxes used in shipping. Many examples of these old labels can be
found in antique stores and other places which deal in antiquities
and collectibles. The images proudly displayed here by FruitFromWashington.com,
are of labels that were never used on boxes but were laid aside and
somehow survived after they became obsolete in the industry. |

| We are not surprised that collectors are showing a healthy interest in fruit crate labels as a form of commercial art. The price of individual crate labels varies based on availability, rarity and condition. Northwest labels, especially from the orchard districts of Washington State, are highly valued. You can understand why when you see some of these wonderful examples of labels that reflect so much of the history of orcharding. Fruit crate labels are graphically creative, colorful and even humorous in nature. They illustrate the character and identity of the fruit grower or packer, often including personal touches representing the people, the time and place of their origins. | ||
